YOUTH OF THE YEAR

Terrance Ferguson
Is a 10 year member of the Shaffer Village Boys and Girls Club. Terrance is a senior at Kenmore West High School with future plans on going to Alfred State University. As a member of the club, Terrance has been active in the KeyStone Club where the group has taken part in many communinity service projects, most notable graffi removal in the Shaffer Village area. Terrance has taken a strong stand at his club through leading by example. An all around athlete at his school and member of the varsity football team. Terrance took on a job as a program aide at his home club to help the younger members and help his family financially. Terrance would like to pursue a career as a professional football player. At Alfred, he plans on learning the skills to become a Welder.

This is a program where we teach the children how to prepare for job interviews, how to "dress properly" for an interview, how to write a resume & cover letters, how to fill out an application and etc.
This program encourages Club members ages 13-18 to assess their skills and interests, explore careers, make sound educational decisions and prepare to join our nation’s ever-changing work force. Club staff work with teens individually or in small groups to build their job-search skills and job readiness

Homework Power Hour

Three times a week children are asked to focus on their homework, and if there are any questions, on site tutors are available.

Power Hour

Our club is a 21st Century Learning Center, which means Monday-Thursday our members are required to do 30-40 mins of educational work.
At the beginning of each day (6-7:30pm), members receive a small snack and can get help with homework/reading or if needed, receive tutoring from staff members each day. Once the children have had their educational work checked, they are able to participate in recreational activities throughout the club. In addition, members have full access to our computer lab that consists of 7 computers (internet accessible) to do research, type papers, or play educational games.

Field Trips

Arts & Crafts

Painting, drawing, sketching and clay fixtures to name a few. Children are taught to use their creative side to express themselves.

GAME ROOM

Fitness Hour

During this hour we will educate children about proper dieting and will teach easy excerises to stay healthy.

Fitness Authority

Starting each January – March we offer members a fun and exciting fitness program for member 8-15yrs old. FITNESS AUTHORITY promotes fitness in all youth through fun, engaging weekly activities and an annual competition with local and regional competitions. The program features 12 weekly sessions for each of the three age groups. Club members improve their fitness levels through simple exercises of endurance, flexibility and strength.
Offered throughout January-March

Computer Workshops

Children learn the basics of operating computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Office and Powerpoint.

Basketball League

Teens practice twice a week, and play in league every Sunday.

Passport to Manhood


NFL Flag Football League

Children learn the basics of football in this non-contact program.  Teams are formed weekly to learn while playing.

Floor Hockey

Children in this six week clinic are taught basic hockey skill.  Coach Tim Moore gives each child an opportunity to play while learning how to be a team player.
